(a) Horizontal tail surfaces and their supporting st ructure m ust be designed for unsymmetrical loads arising from y awing and rotor wak e effects in co mbination with the prescribed flight conditions.
(b) To meet t he desi gn cri teria of sub-paragraph (a) , i n t he absence of m ore rat ional data, both of the following must be met:
(1) 100% of the maximum loading from the symmetrical fl ight condi tions act s on t he surface on one side of the plane of sym metry, and no loading acts on the other side.
(2) 50% of t he m aximum loading from the symmetrical fl ight condi tions act s on t he surface on each side of the plane of symmetry, in opposite directions.
(c) For em pennage arrangem ents where the horizontal tail surfaces are supported by the vertical tail surfaces, the vertical tail surfaces and supporting st ructure m ust be desi gned for the combined vertical and horizontal surface loads resulting from each prescribed flight condition, considered separat ely. The fl ight conditions must be selected so that the maximum design loads are obtained on each surface. In the absence of more rational d ata, th e u nsymmetrical h orizontal tail surface loading distributions described in this paragraph must be assumed.
