§29.397 Limit pilot forces and torques

(a) Except as provi ded in sub-paragraph (b) , the limit pilot forces are as follows: (1) For foot controls, 578 N (130 lbs). (2) For st ick cont rols, 445 N (100 lbs) fore and aft, and 298 N (67 lbs) laterally. (b) For flap, tab , stab iliser, ro tor b rake an d landing gear operat ing cont rols, t he following apply: (1) Crank, wheel , and l ever cont rols, (25.4 + R) x 2.919 N, where R = radius in millimetres ( ⎡⎢1 + R ⎤⎥ x 50 lbs, where R = ⎣ 3 ⎦ radius in i nches), but not l ess t han 222 N (50 lbs) nor more than 445 N (100 l bs) for hand-operated controls or 578 N (130 l bs) for foot - operated cont rols, appl ied at any angle within 20° of the plane of motion of the control. (2) Twist cont rols, 356 x R Newton-millimetres, where R = rad ius in m illimetres (80 x R i nch-pounds where R = radi us i n inches).
