Text in force at CS29-12: from CS29-0, effective 14 Nov 2003.
(a) The reaction to the loads prescribed in CS 29.397 must be provided by:
(1) The control stops only;
(2) The control locks only;
(3) The irreversible m echanism only (with the mechanism locked and with the control surface in the critical positions for the effective parts of the system within its limit of motion);
(4) The attachment of the control system t o t he rot or bl ade pi tch cont rol horn only (with th e co ntrol in th e critical positions for the affected parts of th e system with in th e limits of its motion); and
(5) The attachment of the control system to the control surface horn (with the control in the critical positions for the affected parts of the system within the limits of its motion).
(b) Each pri mary cont rol sy stem, i ncluding its supporting st ructure, m ust be desi gned as follows:
(1) The system m ust withstand loads resulting from th e lim it p ilot fo rces p rescribed in CS 29.397;
(2) Not withstanding sub-paragraph (b)(3), when power-opera ted act uator cont rols or power boost cont rols are used, the system must also withstand the loads resulting from the limit pilot forces prescribed i n C S 29.397 i n conjunction with the forces output of each normally energised power device, including any single power boost or actuator system failure;
(3) If the system desi gn or t he norm al operating loads are such that a part of the system cannot react to the lim it pilot forces prescribed in CS 29.397, that part of the system must be desi gned t o wi thstand t he m aximum loads that can be obtained in normal operation. The minimum design loads m ust, in any case, provide a rugged sy stem for servi ce use, including consi deration of fat igue, jam ming, ground gusts, control inertia and friction loads. In the absence of a rational analysis, the design loads resulting from 0 .60 o f th e sp ecified limit pilot forces are acceptable m inimum design loads; and
(4) If operational loads m ay be exceeded through jam ming, ground gusts, control in ertia, o r frictio n, the system must withstand th e limit p ilot fo rces sp ecified in CS 29.397, without yielding.
